Position: Building maintenance operative

Location: St Agnes Church, 143 East 43rd Street, New York, NY 10017

Overview

We are pleased to offer the position of building maintenance operative with immediate start at the above location. St Agnes church is located right in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, a few steps from Grand Central Station. Built in the 1870s, the church has undergone many alterations over the years, and we hope its rich history continues for years to come. Core Responsibilities

– General maintenance and upkeep (keeping all areas clean & tidy, sweeping & mopping as required, trash collection and putting bins out twice a week)

– General repairperson work and maintenance (fixing broken odds & ends, changing lightbulbs, HVAC filters, painting, etc.)

– Snow removal and salting in winter (with new snow plow purchased in 2024)

– Inspecting and maintaining boilers and all HVAC equipment

– Maintaining exterior of church and landscaping (power washing sidewalk when required, watering plants and planting new flowers in the spring).

– Flexibility with working hours should the need arise

Key Skills & Qualifications

– Knowledge of good maintenance practices to maintain a clean environment for all other staff and parishioners.

– Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.

– Skill in using hand and power tools safely.

– Good problem-solving and time-management skills.

– Physical stamina for lifting heavy items, bending, and standing.

– Comfortable on ladders and our electric man lift (used for changing chandelier lightbulbs & hanging Christmas decorations).

– Fluent in spoken and written English; Spanish speaking a plus but not a mandatory requirement

Working Hours & Remuneration

– Working hours: Monday to Friday – 9 am to 5 pm (Standard 40 Hour week)

– Salary Position: $50k range (subject to experience)
