Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Purchasing Agent to join our growing team a leading supplier of building materials. The ideal candidate will be responsible for sourcing and purchasing building supplies, ensuring timely deliveries, managing vendor relationships, and maintaining inventory levels. This role requires strong negotiation skills, industry knowledge, and the ability to collaborate with internal departments to meet supply chain needs.
Key Responsibilities:
· Procurement of Materials:
o Source, evaluate, and select suppliers for various building materials such as lumber, cement, building supplies and hardware.
o Purchase materials based on company needs, project timelines, and inventory levels.
o Ensure competitive pricing and quality assurance of materials purchased.
· Vendor Management:
o Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and manufacturers.
o Negotiate terms of purchase agreements, including price, payment terms, and delivery schedules.
o Resolve issues related to product quality, late deliveries, or discrepancies in orders.
· Inventory Management:
o Monitor stock levels and reorder materials as necessary to prevent shortages and overstocking.
o Work closely with the warehouse and operations teams to ensure timely deliveries and stock rotation.
· Order Tracking and Reporting:
o Maintain accurate records of all purchases and ensure proper documentation is in place for auditing purposes.
o Monitor and track orders from purchase through delivery, ensuring items arrive on time and meet required specifications.
o Provide regular reports on inventory levels, order status, and budget compliance to management.
· Cost Control and Budget Management:
o Ensure all purchases are within budget constraints.
o Analyze and report on purchasing trends, identifying opportunities for cost savings or efficiency improvements.
· Compliance and Safety Standards:
o Ensure that all purchased materials comply with regulatory standards and safety requirements.
o Keep up-to-date with industry regulations and trends to anticipate any changes in product needs or supplier availability.
· Collaboration:
o Work closely with project managers, estimators, and other departments to understand their material requirements and delivery timelines.
o Assist with the development of project-specific purchasing strategies.
Qualifications:
o High school diploma or equivalent
o Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field (Preferred).
· Experience:
o Minimum of 2 years experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain management, preferably in the construction or building supply industry.
o Experience with procurement software and inventory management systems is a plus.
· Skills:
o Strong negotiation and communication skills.
o Knowledge of building materials, construction practices, and market trends.
o Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
o Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook), and procurement software (e.g., NetSuite, Oracle, QuickBooks).
